3-Day Workshop

Join us for this 3-day workshop and learn how to design and build professional interactive and animated maps.

With the world of web mapping moving at lightspeed, we'll teach you what you need to know about cartography today, what technology to implement, and how to deliver great looking custom geographic content over the web. If you want to take your maps beyond simple red pushpins on a Google map, this is the seminar for you.

We will take you through graduate-level discussions on the principles of cartography and insights from the latest mapping research. From there, we will move to hands-on development, implementing these ideas by building a series of interactive, web-based maps. We will provide you with extensive tutorials, lecture materials, and custom code libraries. At the end of the workshop you will have everything you need to start building your own content right away.

This is not merely a software training class. While software and the latest technology change constantly, great maps have been—and always will be—based on a deep understanding of good design and communication. Just as owning a word processor won't make you a great author, simple button pushing in GIS/mapping software is never going to create brilliant, content-rich, easy-to-use maps. We teach you how to think and work like a professional cartographer.
