David Heyman is a founder of Axis Maps. He has a BA from Middlebury College and worked as a GIS analyst for cities from rural Vermont to New York City before coming to Madison where he earned his MS at the University of Wisconsin in Cartography. Although a trained cartographer, he now spends his time running the day-to-day operations of Axis Maps, from strategic planning to managing individual projects, working with clients to coordinate Axis Maps' work.

Ben is a founder of Axis Maps. With a PhD and MS from the University of Wisconsin, and a BS from Wheaton College, Ben is an award-winning designer and is the creative mind behind the graphic identity of many of our projects. Ben has made significant contributions in the mapping sciences shaping how we think about everything from the history of cartography to 3D immersive maps. Ben seamlessly bridges the academic and professional world to create elegant and intuitive maps.

Before joining Axis Maps, Mark was a tenured professor at the University of Wisconsin in cartography and geovisualization. Mark has spent the last decade at the forefront of cartography, visualization and web-technology with over 30 publications and 50+ public lectures and conference talks. Over the years, he has served on the editorial board of 5 major cartography journals and was a recipient of the UW Chancellors Distinguished Teaching Award. In 1996 Mark wrote one of the first articles on web-based mapping and is regularly invited to give guest lectures at top universities and advise some of the largest companies in the world of mapping. Mark has a good sense for where the mapping sciences are headed and can help you navigate your position in it.

Having received a BA from Ohio Wesleyan and an MS in Cartography from the University of Wisconsin, Andy was a driving force behind many projects at the UW Cartography Lab, translating great ideas into great code. Andy has designed and built many award-winning interactive maps, and with his off-kilter take on static and interactive cartography explores some unusual aesthetic qualities of maps.

Zachary is an experienced teacher, cartographer, and developer. Though fluent in many client and server-side programming languages, he specializes in the Flash platform. While earning his Master's degree in Cartography and GIS, Zach and a number of his students won mapping awards from National Geographic, NACIS, and other professional societies. Zach's open source coding projects are path-breaking and widely distributed.
